Colt Technology Services is becoming the first network service provider to offer SCION to businesses in Europe, North America and Asia. The technology, developed by Anapaya, is now commercially available from the operator following a two-year proof of concept. The announcement, reported on 13 October 2026 by Startupticker.ch, comes from a press release: it therefore reflects the word of the companies involved, not an independent assessment.

An architecture designed to control the data path

SCION stands for “Scalability, Control and Isolation on Next Generation Networks”. The press release describes it as an Internet architecture intended to provide secure routing, resistance to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and high availability.

Its principle, as presented by the source, lies in controlling the path. Conventional wide area networks (WANs), based on the Internet or on IP, offer “some visibility” into where data travels. With SCION, according to the press release, organisations can “define, audit and enforce” exactly how their data flows from end to end. The stated aim: to meet regulatory requirements, support data sovereignty needs and achieve more predictable performance.

The press release, however, remains general about the method: it details neither the path selection mechanism, nor the technical comparison with current Internet routing, nor the scientific origin of the architecture, which it presents as an Anapaya technology.

What is already in service

The source states that SCION is “widely used” in critical infrastructure, notably within the Swiss financial community. During the proof of concept, Anapaya tested and validated the technology with several financial sector organisations that already use it to gain observability and protect their critical data.

These organisations are not named, and no figures specify the number of users or the volume of traffic involved. Use in Swiss finance is therefore presented as established, but without verifiable evidence in the source.

What the agreement with Colt changes

What is at stake in the agreement is geographic reach. Colt presents itself as the largest B2B operator in Europe: it connects more than 40 countries, 32,000 business buildings, more than 275 points of presence and 12 cable landing stations, and operates eight submarine cable systems. The offering, named Colt SCION, combines Anapaya's technology with this global network and the operator's management.

The target customers are organisations with sensitive, regulated or critical network needs: energy, healthcare, public administrations, defence and large international financial groups.

Peter Coppens, vice president of product at Colt Technology Services, sums up the operator's position: “Trust, resilience and control are non-negotiable for organisations handling critical data. Colt SCION delivers all three, giving businesses greater assurance about how their data flows. As the first provider to offer SCION-enabled connectivity in Europe, North America and Asia, Colt combines a new security standard with the reach and control of its own global infrastructure.”

Established, announced, to be confirmed

  • Established according to the source: Colt SCION is commercially available on three continents, following a two-year proof of concept conducted with Anapaya.
  • Asserted without detail: the “wide” use of SCION in critical infrastructure and in Swiss finance, as well as its use by several financial organisations.
  • Commercial promise: full control of the data path, better regulatory compliance and more predictable performance. The press release provides no measurements to support them.

The limits of the announcement

Startupticker.ch's headline speaks of a “major deal” for Anapaya, but the source gives no amount, no duration and no first customers for the Colt offering. Nor does the press release say how SCION fits with the existing Internet, or what a business must change in its infrastructure to benefit from it.

The question of adoption therefore remains open. A network architecture only gains value if enough players deploy it; the arrival of an operator the size of Colt broadens access to SCION beyond Switzerland, but the real extent of its use by businesses on these three continents remains to be seen.
