MassChallenge Switzerland, the Swiss branch of the global MassChallenge accelerator network, presented its 2026 awards on 29 October 2026 at Beaulieu in Lausanne. Swiss startups Trilliome and Flycatcher each receive a Gold prize of CHF 10,000. DecodeNAture wins the One Young World Award, also worth CHF 10,000, according to the press release published by Startupticker.ch.

More than 500 guests from the innovation ecosystem attended the ceremony, according to the press release published on 30 October 2026. The awards honour the 2026 cohort of the Early-stage Accelerator, MassChallenge Switzerland's acceleration programme for young startups.

Who are the winners of MassChallenge Switzerland 2026?

Three Swiss startups take home a cash prize of CHF 10,000. The press release describes them as follows:

  • Flycatcher, a Swiss deep tech startup, trains artificial intelligence (AI) to recognise the "normal" state of containers, trucks and trains. It flags anomalies 310 times faster than a human inspector, according to the company.
  • Trilliome develops patented ingredients that act on the network between the gut and the brain, for metabolic and cognitive health.
  • DecodeNAture identifies DNA quickly, directly in the field, to inform decisions in agriculture, biosecurity and biodiversity monitoring.

The top award, the Diamond Prize, goes to a Swedish startup, N23 Health. Led by Lisa Falco, its Zurich-based CEO, it enables a trained nurse to examine a breast lump with a portable ultrasound device. Neither a radiologist nor an internet connection is needed. Early breast cancer screening thus becomes accessible where mammography is lacking, according to the press release, which does not put a figure on this prize.

What Flycatcher and Trilliome do

Flycatcher is targeting logistics first. Its solution has been validated with Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), the press release states, without specifying the form of this validation. No contract or funding round has been announced. The startup then wants to expand into manufacturing and energy. The factor of 310 comes from the company: no independent measurement is cited.

Trilliome says it is creating a new category, beyond probiotics, prebiotics and postbiotics. It relies on initial efficacy data and on letters of intent from major global nutrition players. A letter of intent is not a firm order. Its model consists of supplying its ingredients and licensing them on the market for healthy lifespan, known as "healthspan".

An accelerator that takes no equity: what difference does it make?

MassChallenge Switzerland is part of a global network of accelerators that take no stake in the startups' capital, the press release points out. This year, 10 winning startups share CHF 250,000 in cash prizes, without giving up any equity. In total, 11 cash prizes and 18 in-kind prizes, worth more than CHF 400,000, were awarded during the evening.

For founders, such a prize is not a funding round. A funding round brings money into the company's capital in exchange for shares, as our guide on how to raise funds in Switzerland explains. A prize without equity therefore does not reduce the founders' stake. Startupticker.ch also lists around a hundred prizes useful to young companies, according to our page on the seed funding round.

The in-kind prizes take the form of free consulting hours in Switzerland. In total, 18 Swiss startups benefit, split among three providers:

ProviderService offeredBeneficiary startups

Reuteler & Cie SA12 hours of intellectual property adviceArborix, CHoNova, DecodeNAture, KWiiD AG, PreciMUNE, SunPhi NutriScience GmbH
In Extenso8 hours of accounting servicesCaptuREE, Dexterous Endoscopes, Mantias AG, Softreg GmbH, StructIQ SA, Trilliome

The three Swiss winners of a CHF 10,000 prize thus combine cash and in-kind support.

The Gold prize compared with other seed support

At CHF 10,000, the Gold prize sits at the bottom of the scale of support schemes reported by 2clics in October 2026. The table compares their form and amount:

The Foundation for Innovation and Technology (FIT), which supports young companies in Vaud and French-speaking Switzerland, awarded a FIT Impact grant of the same amount to Niv'o and to EC Knit. It also granted a FIT Tech Seed loan of CHF 100,000 to three startups, including Biodelphis Therapeutics, a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Venture Kick, a philanthropic initiative of a private consortium, paid its maximum of CHF 150,000 to Prismus, for Lupa, Prismus's AI.

Lausanne startup Sonexos illustrates the next step. On 21 October 2026 it announced a CHF 5 million funding round in equity, for a technology licensed from EPFL. There, investors take a stake in the capital, unlike with a MassChallenge prize.

MassChallenge's place in the Swiss ecosystem

MassChallenge Switzerland claims a broad track record since 2016. According to its own figures, the programme has supported 1,369 startups from around the world. Together they are said to have raised CHF 4.2 billion and created 94,800 jobs. The press release does not say what share of these results is due to the accelerator, and cites no independent verification.

The programme relies on 21 partners, both companies and public authorities. According to the press release, they contribute money, but also their employees' time to mentor the startups.

The 2026 cohort extends far beyond Switzerland. It brings together 189 startups from 48 countries on 4 continents, including 49 from the Global South. They were selected from 1,961 applications, and the Swiss and UK cohorts competed together. The winners cover agritech and foodtech, materials and industry, health, as well as AI and autonomy.

Women also play a prominent role in this edition. According to MassChallenge Switzerland, 64% of the startups in the cohort had a female co-founder. Of the 11 cash prize winners, 8 have at least one woman among their co-founders.

Ian Roberts, chairman of MassChallenge Switzerland, congratulated the startups and thanked partners and experts. Their energy and time "make a huge difference" for the participants, he says in the press release.

What we don't know yet

  • Where Flycatcher, Trilliome and DecodeNAture are based: the press release describes them as Swiss, without naming their city or canton.
  • The nature of Flycatcher's validation with SBB: test, pilot project or contract, nothing is specified.
  • Trilliome's partners: the nutrition players that signed letters of intent are not named.
  • The amount of the Diamond Prize and how the CHF 250,000 is divided among the 10 winners.
  • A funding round by the winners: none has been announced.
